Home Learning

At St Gregory's we value the importance of reading widely and as frequently as possible. For this reason, we ask that children read daily. We encourage children to read a wide variety of texts, including their school reading book and books from home. We will continue to ask for your child to return his/her reading book to school each Monday and Thursday so that a new book can be chosen and taken home on the same day. We encourage all children to read daily and we ask parents/carers to sign the reading log (located underneath the date) each week.

Regarding the spellings, we upload spellings from the KS2 curriculum on SpellingFrame at the beginning of each week. We encourage the children to practice and rehearse the spellings throughout the week and we ask that children complete the test on SpellingFrame each time they access the site to prepare for the test on Friday.

In order to consolidate times tables, we use Times Tables Rock Stars on a weekly basis which is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice.

Finally, I plan to provide additional homework when I feel this would support your child’s learning. This may have an English or Maths focus or it may be something creative for History or Geography.

As stated in the school policy, as a consequence of Key Stage 2 children not completing homework tasks, children will lose their playtime that day.

Knowledge Organisers!

At the beginning of each half term, your child will bring home a Knowledge Organiser for Science, History and/or Geography. This A4 sheet will include the key knowledge that your child will be learning during their current unit of work. Your child will be expected to remember as much of this as possible, so independent study will be very useful!

PE

PE will take place every Tuesday afternoon and will be taught by Miss Richardson.

Year Three will continue with their swimming lessons after Christmas.

Please ensure that your child has their full PE kit in school at all times. This kit should be brought in at the start of every half term and will be sent home at the end of that half term to be washed.
