Knowledge organisers (KOs) are powerful tools that help children learn, recall, and retain key information. They provide a clear overview of the most important facts, concepts, and vocabulary for a topic or subject. Here are some ways we use knowledge organisers in school, and some ways families may use them at home, to engage children in learning and support their education:
How We Use Knowledge Organisers in School
Daily Practice
Teachers use KOs for quick quizzes and activities to help children recall important information and strengthen their memory; children will often quiz eachother, too.
Interactive Learning
Lessons include fun activities like matching definitions, completing sentences, or creating visual aids using the information in the KO.
Group Work
Students work together to present information from the KO in creative ways, like posters, songs/raps, or presentations.
Review and Build
Teachers refer to the KO during lessons to show how topics connect and revisit key concepts throughout the term to help children retain their learning over time.
