    PSHE Curriculum Intent

St. Gregory’s Catholic Primary School seeks to be a Christ-centred community where all are enabled to develop their full potential. Our Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) curriculum enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. It helps them understand how they are developing personally and socially and supports them in navigating the moral, social, and cultural issues that are part of growing up.

At St. Gregory’s, PSHE is a core part of our Fullness of Life offer, which brings together a range of programmes and opportunities to nurture the whole child. These include:

    • myHappymind+ – an NHS backed programme which promotes mental health, self-esteem, resilience, and emotional literacy
    • Social Signature – developing character through reflection, values education, and meaningful experiences
    • No Outsiders – celebrating diversity and teaching inclusion in line with the Equality Act 2010
    • A Journey in Love – our Catholic Relationships and Sex Education programme
    • Pupil Experiences and Leadership – encouraging service, responsibility and contribution to the wider world

Through these strands, we aim to:

    • Help pupils live and learn in a Catholic, Christian environment, leading to acceptance and respect of others in a diverse community and wider world.
    • Provide an environment in which high expectations will lead to a striving for excellence in all aspects of school life, including exceptional manners and well-developed social skills.
    • Educate and develop each member of the school community by building on their strengths and supporting them in times of need, particularly in building up resilience and overall wellbeing.
    • Foster purposeful relationships with those who learn in, work in and visit our school where diverse views and backgrounds are respected and accepted.
    • Educate them to live Healthy lives through regular exercise, healthy eating, development of healthy minds and positive relationships.
    • Provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a positive member of a diverse society.

Fullness of Life – Our Personal Development Curriculum

Our Fullness of Life curriculum is thoughtfully designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills and values they need to flourish as confident, compassionate individuals. Weekly Personal Development lessons explore themes such as safety, health and wellbeing, emotional regulation, independence, and respect. These are enhanced by high-quality RSE teaching through A Journey in Love, as well as values-based learning through Social Signature and inclusive education through No Outsiders.

Assemblies, PSHE sessions, worship time and enrichment activities are used across the year to embed each half-termly value, ensuring children understand and apply what they learn in real-world contexts. Experiences such as pupil leadership, buddy systems, local community visits, and school trips help pupils live out their Social Signature and understand the mark they can make on the world.

    PSHE Curriculum Impact

The impact of our PSHE curriculum is demonstrated through:

    • Children will live out the Gospel values and virtues such as love, peace, courage, honesty, forgiveness and justice.
    • Children will develop positive and healthy relationship with their peers both now and in the future.
    • Children will understand the physical aspects involved in RSE at an age-appropriate level.
    • Children will have respect for themselves and others.
    • Children will demonstrate and apply the British Values of Democracy, Tolerance, Mutual respect, Rule of law and Liberty.
    • Children will demonstrate a healthy outlook towards school – attendance will be in-line with national and behaviour will be good.
    • Children will achieve age related expectations across the wider curriculum.
    • Children will understand how to stay safe online.
