Miss Brown - Class Teacher
Mrs J Williams - Teaching Assistant
Welcome, from Miss Brown
We are so excited to share our learning journey with you! Here, you’ll find plenty of photographs showcasing our exciting activities and achievements on the right-hand side of this page. We’ll be updating them regularly, so make sure to check back often to see what we've been up to!
You can also find lots of useful information about our learning on the curriculum pages at the top, including knowledge organisers for each topic. We’re looking forward to an amazing year together and can’t wait to share all the fantastic things we’ll accomplish in Year 6!
PE day
Year 6 have PE on a Thursday. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kit on this day. When the weather is colder, children are welcome to come into school with jogging bottoms over their PE kit or base layers underneath.
Swimming
Year 6 have swimming starting Monday 12th May and every Monday until 14th July. Children can come to school dressed in their PE kit on this day as well as on a Thursday for their PE lesson.
Music
Year 6 will be learning to play the clarinet every Thursday afternoon with Miss Davies.
Reading
Reading is at the heart of our curriculum and plays a crucial role in developing children's vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking skills. In Year 6, we have five reading lessons each week. Two of these lessons focus on our class novel, allowing children to deepen their understanding of narrative structure, character development, and themes. The remaining three lessons are linked to our wider curriculum, giving pupils the opportunity to explore non-fiction texts and expand their knowledge across a range of subjects.
Our reading lessons are designed to build essential skills that prepare children for secondary education and beyond. These skills are further reinforced at home through our online reading platform, ReadingPlus, and by fostering a love of reading for pleasure.
Homework
Homework in Year 6 is carefully designed to help children consolidate key knowledge through regular, spaced retrieval practice. Each week, pupils complete activities on their independent LBQ account, reinforcing the concepts covered in class and building confidence in core subjects.
In addition, children are expected to complete eight spelling tests on Spelling Frame each week, developing accuracy and a thorough understanding of the spelling rules taught in class. To continue building strong reading skills, pupils also complete two reading lessons on ReadingPlus, fostering comprehension and fluency.
Our approach to homework ensures that children consistently review and reinforce their learning, helping to prepare them for secondary education and beyond.
Pick up time
Year 6 children leave the gate at 3:20pm. If somebody new is collecting your child, please let Miss Brown know either in person or via email. If your child is allowed to walk home by themselves, please fill in the form on the app sent out by Mrs King.
Snack and Water bottles
Please send in a water bottle labelled with your child's name so that they can have a drink throughout the day. During the morning break, children are allowed to bring in a fresh piece of fruit to enjoy.
