    Welcome to Year 5

Together, in Jesus, we Love, Learn, Create and Celebrate!

    Miss Weston - Class Teacher

Mrs C Mooney - Teaching Assistant

    Welcome, from Miss Weston

Welcome to Year 5; we are excited to share our learning journey with you all! Here, you will find lots of photographs of our learning on the right-hand side of this page. We will update the photographs regularly. You can find lots of information about our learning in the curriculum pages at the top, including our knowledge organisers for each topic. We can't wait for you to see what we have been up to!

    PE day

Year 5 have PE on a Thursday. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kit on this day. When the weather is colder, children are welcome to come into school with jogging bottoms over their PE kit or base layers underneath.

    Swimming

Year 5 have PE on a Monday in the Autumn Term (dates will be made clear in the newsletter). Children can come to school dressed in their PE kit on this day as well as on a Thursday for their PE lesson.

    Music

Year 5 have music on a Thursday. They are very excited to be taking their instruments home and must remember to bring them in on a Thursday so they can take part in the lesson.

    Reading

Reading is central to our curriculum and plays a vital role in developing children's vocabulary and comprehension. In Year 5, we complete five reading lessons a week: two based on our class novel, which helps deepen their understanding of narrative structure and character development, and three linked to our wider curriculum, enabling children to explore non-fiction texts and broaden their knowledge across subjects. Through these lessons, children develop key reading skills which are further reinforced at home through our online reading platform, ReadingPlus, and by encouraging children to read for pleasure.

    Homework

In Year 5, homework is designed so that children can consolidate key knowledge through regular, spaced retrieval practice. Each week, children are required to complete activities from their CGP English and Maths books, consolidating the concepts covered in class. Additionally, children are required to complete four tests on Spelling Frame to develop their accuracy and understanding of the spelling rule taught that week in class. To further support reading development, children are required to complete two reading lessons on ReadingPlus.

    Pick up time

Year 5 children should be collected from the gate at 3:20pm. If somebody new is collecting your child, please let Miss Weston know either in person or via email.

    Water bottles

Please send in a water bottle labelled with your child's name so that they can have a drink throughout the day.
